Guns are the ultimate symbol in this book. The symbolize life, and death, but to my distress mostly death in this tale. The irony with guns is tremendous in the book, and everyone who lives by the gun also dies by the gun. The Judge Irwin lived because he got a new job at an electric company even when he was in rough conditions. This made somebody lose their job, and commit suicide. The irony is by obtaining all of that by bribery the Judge himself would also take his life by shooting himself over the guilt. The earlier suicide saved his life, but now it ended it. Willie, the cut-throat politician, also dies buy the gun in the hands of Adam Stanton. Willie had never paid for his actions, and Adam finally cashed in. He shot him unexpectedly at the capital, several times to end the long run of Willie Stark. However Adam killed a very powerful and influential man out of spite and haste so it is only natural that he was shot himself by Sugar Boy. Without the gun the story could not end.
