The lobotomy done by Adam in the hospital corresponds to the ignorance of the story. We now know it is an unsafe, irreversible procedure that should only be done in extreme circumstances. The effects are lifelong and a huge risk to our health. These are like the political decisions made by Willie and Jack. Willie makes the decision to turn dirty in politics. He thought this would help, like how lobotomy was used to be thought of as effective, but in reality it was only hurting him. Jack also experiences this. He makes the decision to blackmail the judge even though he was a father figure, and actual father, to Jack. They walk around as if they don’t have a mind for such thing, and it seems as if somebody has taken some of their brain out. Their decisions to turn corrupt were irreversible, and caused many deaths, and a lot of trauma because of it.
